Please help could I be pregnant?

OK so yesterday I had some spotting it was very light and dark brow my period is due thursday so today i took a test and there was a very,very faint line its very hard to see it also i didn't use the first morning urine and it says that if you prefer you can urinate in a clean cup dip all of the absorbent tip into the cup for 20 seconds and i only left it for 5 seconds i didn't really read all the instructions but could it be a positive oh and i used equate pregnancy test
