Why do people equate anarchism to widespread rioting and chaos?

Whenever I tell someone I am an anarchist, they automatically assume that I want to live in a country where everyone is killing each other and running around with guns and such. That isn't what anarchy is. That's just insanity. Anarchy is just a lack of government. And if you people say that if there's nobody to control you, you will inevitably resort to violence and killing, then you admit you are basically an untamed animal in need of a master. amirite?
